He is survived by: his wife Carol Short; his sons, Greg Short of Maryland and Steve Short of Smyrna; his grandson Jeff Short of Maryland; and his siblings, Elaine Short of Murfreesboro and Mike Short of Lebanon.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Lifepoint Church.
