He was predeceased by: his father Edwin Mire; and his sisters, Maudry Ramsey and Ethel Deslatte. He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Hearne Mire; his son David E. Mire; his grandchildren, Sydney Anne Mire, Connor Lynn Mire, Dylan Paul Mire, Abby Erin Mire, Catherine Riley Mire and D. F. Hunter Copp; and his siblings, Venola VanDeventer and L. C. Mire (Olga). He is also survived by numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
