He was predeceased by: his parents, Annie Mitchell Crosby and Robert Hill; and his brother Ronald Mitchell. He is survived by: his wife Barbara Mitchell; his children, Melanie Shontel and James Myron; and his close friend Stacy Swafford Soddy. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
