He was predeceased by: his parents, Johnny Purvis Kight and Eva Mae Mozingo Kight; his wife Bernadine Leach Kight; and his brother William Monroe Kight. He is survived by: his sons, Dr. John J. Kight (Zackary Conner) and Steven R. Kight (Patricia Kight); his grandchildren, Elizabeth N. Maxwell, Shelby Kight (Simone Soulnier), Katlyn Kight, Logan Kight and Brady Parsons; and his great grandchildren, Avery Stanley, Grayson Stanley, Camilla Maxwell, Brett Massey, Skylar Bea Kight and Remie Jae Lewis.
