He was predeceased by: his parents, Franklin Dean and Erma Dean. He is survived by: his sister Judith Dean Laughlin; his niece Heather Laughlin; his great-nephews, Jayden and Jordan Laughlin of Athens, Ohio.; the mother of his children Grace Dean; his children, Maria Dean Rudolph of Mexico, John F. Dean (Kendra) of Ohio and Laura Endacott (Simon) of Stanwood, Michigan.; his stepchildren, Lisa Kujawski Mabe (Barry) of Tennessee and Tony Gillem Kujawski of Florida; and his grandchildren, Chance Mabe (Aliyah) of Cookeville, TN, Jade Mabe of Sparta, TN, Aaliyah, James Endacott of Stanwood and Heather Mabe Satty (Blake).

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Dekalb County Animal Shelter in James' memory.
