He was predeceased by: his parents, White Hollis Acuff and Estelle Acuff (Johnson); his son John Edgar "Bruiser" Acuff, Jr.; his brothers, Robert Campbell and Joe White Acuff; his sisters-in-law, Charlotte and Emma; his parents-in-law, W. I. Howell and Gladys Howell (Griffin); his brothers-in-law, Jeff Ross and T. C. Howell; Billye Joyce and Karyl.
He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Elizabeth Acuff (Howell); his children, William Ira Howell "Howie", Delnora Acuff of Karl David and Michele Acuff; and his grandchildren, Elizabeth Lynn "Emmie" Acuff, John Edgar Acuff, III, Colin Patrick Acuff and Timothy Alan "Reed" Acuff. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
