He is survived by: his son John Lanny "Little John" Nelson, III; his parents, Shirley Ragan and Aaron Ragan; his siblings, David Knapp, Jennifer Bednarz, Jacob Nelson and Lindsey; his nieces and nephews, Gabe and Luke; his siblings, James Ragan, Erica Ragan and Austin Ragan; and his aunts and uncles, Terry, Syb (Roger), Brenda (Ricky), Linda, Tom (Kathy), Randy (Missy) and Ronnie (Dena).
