He was predeceased by: his wife Margie Chaney; his mother Flossie Chaney; his children, Samuel Lee Chaney Jr., Willard Lowery and Diane Hogan; and his grandson Curron Lowery.

He is survived by: his daughter Maxine Glimps; his siblings, Carrie Sue Moore, Clarence L. Chaney, Gloria Jean Buford (Joseph), Frances Melinda Moore and Nerissa Debra Harvey (Byron); his grandchildren, Saxton Lowery, Isha, Lori Chaney and Cassandra Nicole Peppers; his great grandchildren, Curronica Lowery, Mahayla, Thomarius Simmons, Hali, Chris Howard, Hillary, Blake Huddleston and Ahralyn Peppers; and his close friend James Gwynn. He is also survived by great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
