He was predeceased by: his children, Richard, Roger May and Kim May; his brother Bud; his sister-in-law Gert May; his sisters, Ruby Songer and Lucille Smith; his daughter-in-law Mary May; his great grandchildren, Mary Kay Hale and Charlee Caldwell; and his foster parents, John Savage and Delphia Savage.
He is survived by: his children, Harvey May, Calvin May (Jennifer), William "Bill" Murphy (Lisa) and Sarah Burkholder (Rick); his sister Beatrice DeBoer; and his brother-in-law Teddy Smith. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation was held on Friday, October 16th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Saturday, October 17th 2026 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Layne Funeral Home & Cremation Services (151 Argo Rd, Spencer, TN 38585). A funeral service was held on Saturday, October 17th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
In Lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Rainey-Dill Cemetery.
