With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Ruth Shannon Bellar of Springfield, Tennessee, who passed away on November 23, 2025 at the age of 96. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Dawson Shannon and Lessie Shannon; her brother Douglas Shannon; and her husband Leon Bellar of Springfield. She is survived by: her daughter Vivian; her son-in-law Kelvin Penuel of White House; her son Don; her daughter-in-law Lorrie Bellar of Lakeland, FL; her grandchildren, Hayley, P. J. Moore of Memphis, Peyton, Julie Penuel of Gallatin, Jordan, Olivia Bellar of Tampa, Mason, Branden Wilkerson of Lakeland and Blake Bellar of Nashville; and her great grandchildren, Shepherd, Ruthie, Bellar Moore, Haddie Penuel, Brayden, Bryson Wilkerson, Hudson and Griffin Bellar.
The start of the COVID pandemic sent her home, but she embraced the change with the same resilience and perseverance she carried throughout her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Gideons International or Springfield Baptist Church.
