He was predeceased by: his wife Nina Howard; his parents, Elizabeth Howard and Alonzo Howard; his granddaughter Haley May; his son-in-law Tom Franklin; and his siblings, Dr. Eugene Howard, Hazel Huey, Dalphine Holder and Virgie Dugger.
He is survived by: his children, Ronnie Howard (Diane), Don Howard (Nancy), Sheila Franklin and Melody May (Jeff); and his siblings, Frank, Martin Howard and Virginia Shelby. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Herbert's honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
