He was predeceased by : his parents, Robert Loyce and Trannie Smith Hughes; his wife Lucille Ragsdale Staggs Hughes; his stepsons, Herman "Pete" Staggs and Sherman Staggs; and his siblings, Robert L. Hughes, Jr., William "Bill" Hughes, Ava Nell Mudse, Barbara Ann Eves, Imogene Giles and Sheila Konig.

He is survived by : his siblings, Delmer T. Hughes of Lawrenceburg, TN, Charles E. Hughes of Summertown, TN and Linda Faye Smith of Lawrenceburg, TN; his stepgrandson Daniel Staggs of Summertown, TN; and his stepgreat-grandchildren, Camden Staggs of Summertown, TN and Heleyna Holt of Mt. Pleasant, TN.
