He was predeceased by : his parents, Noah Smith and Virgie Smith; his siblings, Eliza Lephew, Duetta Robinson, June Houston, Junior Jennings and J. B. Smith; and his son H. L. Smith.

He is survived by : his wife Eupha Smith; his daughters, Sherry Hurst, Charlotte Seals (Ron) and Donna Burnette; his grandchildren, Tiyawnah Miracle, Tyler Hurst and Josh Smith (Rebekah); his great grandchildren, Allyson Miracle, Hezekiah Smith, Josiah Smith and Moriah Smith; his pet Julio; and also, Rodney and Tracy Cochran.
