He was predeceased by: his daughter Carla McDowell; his parents, Harold McDowell and Isabelle McDowell; and his siblings, Jack "Bud" McDowell, Larry McDowell, Velma Caldwell and Juanita McDowell.
He is survived by: his wife Portia Sue Gray McDowell; his children, Kathy Chambers (Ed) of Powell's Crossroads, Randy McDowell (Taffy) of Chattanooga and Kim Jenno (David) of Chattanooga; his grandchildren, Jessica Pittman, David Weathers (Alisha), Ashley Cooper (Avery), Cayce Moore (Jonathan), Jordan Matthews (Brandon), Jackson Jenno, Carson Jenno, Mason Dishroon and River Dishroon; his great grandchildren, Madison Sendek, Delainey Floyd (Cade), Callen Cooper, Gunner Weathers, Harper Weathers, Evelyn Moore, Lucy Moore and Lyla Matthews; and his great great grandchild Rustin Sendek. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 23rd 2026 from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM at the Whitwell Memorial Funeral Home, Inc. (795 Morrison Springs Rd, Whitwell, TN 37397). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 24th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Lusk Cemetery.
