He was predeceased by: his mother Gladys Sanders Cates; his wife Mary; and his siblings, Eugene Cates and Dora Lee Wells. He is survived by: his father Lannie Ray Cates; his children, Carol Whitehead (David) of Belvidere, Jeff Cates (Kim) of Belvidere, Brent Cates, April of Lynchburg and Amy Mason (Jeff) of Belvidere; his grandchildren, Nicholas LaFevers, Audra Caldwell (Jeff), Tyler Cates, Tara Cates, Kinah Mason, Caroline Caldwell, Garrett Caldwell and Matthew Caldwell; and his sisters, Elloween Donnell of Smyrna and Marlene Anderson (Jimmy) of Shelbyville, Tenn.. He is also survived by Several nieces, nephews and cousins.
