He is survived by: his sisters, Josephine Elliot, Betty Smith and Pauline Wiggins; his wife Lola Massey Benson of Huntland; his children, Wendy Benson Johnson (Tim Johnson) of Winchester and David Benson (Gina Benson) of Huntland; his granddaughters, Summer, Raegan and Shana; and his brother Fred Benson (Myra Benson) of Belvidere. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, his family is asking everyone to keep his memory alive by embracing the breeze dancing through a hayfield, pausing to appreciate the beauty of the mountain side, and cherishing the boisterous roar of a school bus.
