He was predeceased by: his parents, Kenneth G. Cowan and Rosanne Greenlee Abney; his grandmother Mattie Greenlee; and his brothers, Johnny Mack Cowan and Clyde "Bub" Cowan.
He is survived by: his significant other Mark Hughes; and his sons, Wesley Johnson and Shane Johnson. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
