James left this world on December 27, 2025 at the age of 93, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. He was predeceased by: his father Joseph J. Matthews; his significant other Maxine Moritz of Fredericksburg, TX; his siblings, Joe, Ray, Gerald and Claire; and his grandson Matthew Kennedy.
He is survived by: his sister Ellen Matthews McDermott (Tommy); his grandchildren, Nathan, Hannah, Jenni (Jason), Shari (Colby), Naomi (Wayne), Kevin (Brandi) and Jennifer (James); Mary Rita Mayers Matthews, Michael (Terri Matthews) of Abilene, Sandra (Bubba Winchester) of Abilene and David (Sherry Matthews) of Abilene.
In lieu of flowers the family request. Donations in Jim's honor may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
