He was predeceased by: his parents, John Butcher and Jessie Butcher; his wife Anita Gay Coker; and his sisters, Helen Steed, Jean Shellman, Joan Adamson and Victoria Speltz.

He is survived by: his children, Cassie Jo Bowen of Amarillo, TX, Jayna Katherine Martin of Longmont, CO. and John Charles Butcher Jr. of Amarillo, TX.; and his grandchildren, Ryan Martin of Honoka'a, HI, Ashley Martin of Longmont, CO, Eric Bowen (Laura) of Amarillo, TX, Andrew Bowen (Samantha) of Bostic, NC and Tre Butcher of Conway, SC.. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
