He was predeceased by: his parents, Bernice Schoneweis (Brown) and David Schoneweis. He is survived by: his wife Debra Jean Schoneweis (Compton); his sons, Dylan Schoneweis (Diane Shaw) and Trent Schoneweis (Chanelle); his siblings, Mark Schoneweis (Diana), Marlys Book (Chris) and Susan Schoneweis; and his grandchildren, Jaidan Bogan, Levi Bogan, Leila Schoneweis, Iván Schoneweis and Juniper Schoneweis. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to either the Scouting America Foundation or The American Bladesmith Society.
