He was predeceased by: his parents, Jose Ortiz Gallegos and Maria Contreras Muro; his wife Irma Amparo; and his siblings, Jose "Pepe" Ortiz and Tomasa Alejandrina.

He is survived by: his children, Maria Isabel Cordova (Jesus), Irma Nelly Mendoza (Gilberto), Jesus Jr. Ortiz (Claudia) and Javier Ortiz; his grandchildren, Armando, Gilbert, Celina (Jonathan), Cristina (Eric), Daniel, Denise, Gabriela, Marissa, Valeria, Andres and Javier Jr.; his siblings, Toño, Lalo and Emma Yadira; and his stepsisters, Lydia and Lupita. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
