He was predeceased by : his parents, Jimmie Earl Cotter, Sr. and Shirley Margaret Cotter; and his brother Paul David Cotter. He is survived by : his wife Phyllis Cotter; his children, Jeff Cotter and Jennifer Hoffman (Josef); his granddaughters, Ella and Ava Hoffman; his sisters, Becky Hammonds (Roy) and Cheryl Strunk (Kelly); his aunt Elizabeth Reynolds; and his sister-in-law Trena Milburn (Mark). He is also survived by many nephews, nieces and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Kidney Fund.
