He was predeceased by: his parents, Mary Anna Kirby (Couser) and Independence Day. He is survived by: his wife Lou Kirby (Casalla); his son John Robert Kirby; his granddaughter Mila Elizabeth Kirby; and his siblings, Clark Alan Kirby, Janet Alene Kirby M. D. and Diane Patricia Thornton.
He donated to the Battleship Texas Foundation and eagerly followed its restoration.
