With heavy hearts, we announce the death of David Merkel of Athens, Texas, born in Denton, Texas, who passed away on February 2, 2023 at the age of 67. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Bobby Merkel and Doris Faye Davis (Basham); his siblings, Sherry Raye McNeil and Ricky Neal Merkel; and his grandparents, Raymond D. and Lora Faye Basham.
He is survived by: his wife Alexia Merkel of Athens; his children, Lauren Michelle Sulak (Brandon) of Hillsboro and Kristi Sherwood (Michael) of Tyler; his siblings, Larry Wayne Merkel (Norma) of Hillsboro, Becky Faye Hornsby (Thomas) of Hillsboro and Donald Glen Merkel (Eva) of Waco; his half-siblings, Roxie Goldsmith (Steve) of Scurry and Charles Davis of Port Aransas; his siblings-in-law, Ronnie McNeil and Robin Merkel; his grandchildren, Garrett Sulak, Emma Spigener, Sara Spigener, Alex Sherwood and Natalie Sherwood; and his pet Rascal.
