He was predeceased by: his parents, William C. Cater and Velma Parrott Cater; and his siblings, Earnest Cater, Fletcher Cater, Flora Jones, Geneva Cater, Roberta Hall, Genell Crowe and Alma Riggins.
He is survived by: his wife Joanne Kinsey Cater; his daughter Shana Cole of Pickens; his grandchildren, Katelyn Cole and Jayden Chappell; and his sister Ferra Porter. He is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews.
