He was predeceased by: his parents, Willie Bryan Holland Ratliff and Elbert B Ratliff; his brother Gerald Ratliff; his parents-in-law, Fritz Merkel Jr. and Harriet Ratliff Merkel; and his great grandchild Bryer Simpson.

He is survived by: his wife Pat Merkel; his children, Cynthia Ratliff Williams, Nancy Hermes (Dale), Kevin Ratliff (Kristy) and Joel Ratliff (Betty); his grandchildren, Cody (Autumn), Alyssa (Cassie), Ryan, Lexi (Bo), Garrett, Erin, Dalen, Patrick, Olivia and Conner; and his great grandchildren, Morrigan, Silas, Chase, Chaylee, Braxton, Levi and Leighton.
