She was loved and cherished by many people including: parents: John Howard Cates and Hallie Thornton (also referred to as Howard and Hallie Cates); parents-in-law: Grady and Hazel Leard; husband: Richard Leard; daughters: Lori McGathy and Lucy Perrin (Tim); grandchildren: Hannah McFarland (Kyle), Sam Perrin (Erika Ordog), Will Perrin (Katie O'Malley Perrin), Garrett McGathy, and Gracyn McGathy; great-granddaughters: Luna McFarland and Hazel McFarland.
A graveside service was held on Friday, July 31st 2026 at the Sunset Memorial Park (1582 US Hwy 271 S, Gilmer, TX 75644). A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 17th 2026 at 10:30 AM at the Glenwood Church of Christ (5210 Hollytree Dr, Tyler, TX 75703).
