She is survived by: her children, Anthony Simmons of Austin, TX, Vincent, Angela Simmons of Pflugerville, TX and Yolanda Tolbert (Virgil) of San Marcos, TX.; her siblings, Gwynne Willis (Bernard) of Poughkeepsie, NY, Wanda Batson (Henry Sr.) of Houston, TX, Kenneth Spencer (Angela) of Spokane, WA and Riley Spencer of Austin, TX.; and her grandchildren, Brittany Guice, Starnisha Bodie, Paulette Hausley and Michala Simmons. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Through her compassion, patience, and dedication, Joan made a significant contribution to the academic and personal development of numerous students.
