He was predeceased by: his parents, Marcellino Mata II and Elsie Nuncio Mata; his brother Santana "Homboy" Mata; his grandparents, Eva "Mamo", Marcellino "Papo" Mata, Sr., Berta and Guadalupe "Wally" J. Casares II; his aunt Gloria Nuñcio; his uncles, Arthur Casares, Oscar "Buddy" Mata and Fidel Gonzales; his niece Eva Govea; his brother-in-law John Buentello; Ozzy Osbourne.

He is survived by: his wife Janet Mata; his children, Noelle Mata (Alejandro Castellanos), Brianna Hernandez (Cameron) and Aricella Mata; his grandchildren, Aubree Castellanos, Ava Castellanos, Cruz Markie Castellanos and Cameron Castellanos; his siblings, Kathy Mata, Marcellino "Chango" Mata III (Dina), Lisa Mata Pineda (Gustavo), Karen Mata, Rhonda Mata, Destanie Mata and Delila Mata; and his pets, Motley Crue and Zeppelin.

In lieu of flowers, the family humbly requests donations be made the American Heart Association in his name.
