He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Shapiro and Bess Shapiro; his siblings, Shepard Shapiro and Naomi; and his brother-in-law David Meyerson.
He is survived by: his wife Lottie; his daughters, Julie Schechter (Richard) and Susan Schmitz (Mike); his grandchildren, Alyssa Morton (Tylor), Andrea Schmitz, Monica Schechter (Peter Bailey) and Drew Schmitz; his great grandchildren, Zoe and Myles Morton; his siblings-in-law, Reva Shapiro and Gunter Frankel (Danielle); and his caregiver Emerald Wilson. He is also survived by many extended family members and friends.
He was involved in the Austin Community Foundation at and from its inception, being instrumental in its formation and serving as the Chair of the Board thereafter for several years.
