Alan Wayne Ford Obituary

Alan Wayne Ford of Bastrop, TX, passed away on November 5, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted husband of 41 years to Kathryn Ford, a loving father to Rebecca King, Jill Ivie, and Lyle Mackey, and a proud grandfather to Kate and Jack Ivie, and Alison and Madeline King.

Born on December 15, 1944, in Austin, Texas, Alan graduated from Travis High School in 1962 and went on to attend the University of Texas at Austin, where he played trumpet in both the Longhorn Marching Band and the ROTC Band. He earned a bachelor's degree in business from UT and later a master's degree from St. Edward's University. Alan spent his career serving his country through the U.S. Department of the Treasury and retired from the Internal Revenue Service, with a brief foray into real estate.

A lifelong musician, Alan continued performing with the Longhorn Alumni Band and he joyfully encouraged his children and grandchildren in their own musical pursuits, whether on trumpet, flute, percussion, or clarinet.

Alan gave generously of his time and talents to his community. He was a longtime member and past president of the Austin Founders Lions Club and served on the board of directors for the Bastrop Family Crisis Center, supporting survivors of domestic violence and promoting youth education and outreach. He was also a dedicated member of First Presbyterian Church of Smithville, Texas.

Curious and engaged with the world around him, Alan loved books, learning, and deep conversations with friends and family. He enjoyed the outdoors, helping care for his family's ranch in Lockhart, traveling to places of natural beauty, and hiking. In his younger years, he earned medals in marksmanship and obtained his private pilot's license. Throughout his life, he remained a passionate and loyal fan of University of Texas sports-especially football, volleyball, and women's basketball.

Alan will be remembered for his gentle spirit, generosity, and the countless ways he uplifted others. His circle of friends was wide, and his kindness left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
