He was predeceased by: his parents, John Womble and Louise Womble; and his brother Jerry Samuel Womble. He is survived by: his wife Marylyn; his children, John Richard (Rick), Jessica Craft (David) of Frisco, Texas and Jeffrey Womble (Meg) of Metairie, Louisiana; his grandson John Lealan Womble of Bryan, Texas; and his children, Jack Cason Womble of Bastrop, Texas and McKenna Ellen Womble (Emme) of Metairie, Louisiana..

He returned with his family to Abilene in 1972 as Assistant General Manager of the Abilene Chamber of Commerce, and from 1976-78 was Vice President for the Hendrick Medical Center Foundation.
