We are sad to announce that, on April 20, 2026, at the age of 79, James Everett Ely (Bay City, Texas) passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Joyce Ely and Delbert Ely; and his brothers, Tom and Richard. He is survived by: his wife Nancy Wirth Knapik; his children, Megan Ely Lewis (Chris), James Morgan Ely (Laura) and Joseph Matthew Ely; his grandchildren, Kristen Lewis, Lucy Ely, Emily Lewis and James M. Ely; and his close friends, JP, Otto, Dixon, Claudette and Watt.

Remembrances may be made to St. Marks Episcopal Church of Bay City, St. John's Episcopal Church of Palacios, or the Alzheimer's Foundation.

He helped establish many organizations to help the citizens of Bay City. He was an outdoorsman, great fisherman, ran his cows on horseback, loved his family. What an amazing life of a great man.
