He was predeceased by: his parents, Mary "Jean" Wilkerson and James Robert "Bob" McKernan; and his brothers, James Robert McKernan (Jim Bob) and Jennings McKernan. He is survived by: his wife Georgia McKernan; his sister Judy Franks; his children, Chris McKernan (Melissa) of Hamshire, Shannon Gibson (A. J.) of Dayton and John McKernan II of Longview; his grandson Brandon Fulford; his children, Bryan McKernan (Brittany), Mathew McKernan (Arorra), Cheyenne Gonzalez (Ryan), Bailey Cook (Stanley) and Dallas Gibson; and his great grandchildren, Wyatt McKernan, Lily McKernan, Ryan Gonzalez, Elaina Gonzalez, Maddison Stitch, Mallarie Stitch and Stephen Force.
