He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Bernice Mathews (Nichols) and James Mathews; his wife Athena Ferrell Mathews of Beaumont, Texas; his siblings, James Mathews Sr. (Melda Mathews) of Lumberton, Texas and Martha (Chuck Albanese) of Beaumont, Texas; his daughter Kelly (Jeremy Fuhlman); his nephews, James Jr. (Teresa Mathews), Mike (Niki Albanese) and Eldon (Lisa Albanese); his great-niece Jennifer (Mike Davidson); his son Alex Ferrell; and his grandchildren, Reece Fuhlman, Xander Ferrell, Maddax Ferrell, Jaxson Ferrell, Emberlynn Ferrell, Anakin Davidson, Marlie Davidson, Noah Davidson and Norman Davidson.
