He was predeceased by: his parents, Rosemary Helen Knoblett Gatton and Earl Virgil Gatton; his former wife Doris Gatton; his siblings, Sue Gatton and Joe Gatton; and his stepson Kevin Townsend.
He is survived by: his wife Judy Keitel Gifford; his son Gary D. Gatton, Jr. (Becky); his granddaughter Taylor Lamar (Baley); his great grandchild Ezra Sisk of Angleton; and his stepson Allen Townsend of Arkansas. He is also survived by 2 daughters and their husbands, 4 grandchildren and 3 great children.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 16th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Dixon Funeral Home (1211 S Brooks St, Brazoria, TX 77422). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 17th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the First Methodist Church of Brazoria (409 Lazy Ln, Brazoria, TX 77422). A burial will be held on Saturday, October 17th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Angleton Cemetery (328 Cemetery Rd, Angleton, TX 77515).
