He was predeceased by: his parents, William "Bill" Wilkinson and Mary Ellen Ambrose; his son John Sternadel; and his siblings, Lynda Puckett, Fred Wilkinson and Fred James.

He is survived by: his wife Joetta Wilkinson; his children, Richard Wilkinson (Gneta), Ricky Nelson (Chasity), Bobby Sternadel (Angel), Christina Burkett (Chris Ross) and Mary Jenkins (Freddie); and his siblings, Billy Wilkinson (Becky), Eddie Ambrose (Tori) and Judy Wilkinson (Piar). He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
