He was predeceased by: his parent Monserrat Gonzalez Enriquez; his wife Socorro P. Chavez; his daughter Socorrito Chavez; his parent Atanacio Chavez Hernandez; and his siblings, Federico "Chico" Antancio Baca, Atancio Gonzales, Fidala Chavez and Esther Chavez.
He is survived by: his children, Leticia Chavez Guerra (Enrique) of Brownfield, TX, Dr. Noe Chavez of San Antonio, TX, Alvaro Chavez of Brownfield, TX and Paz-Zita Parra Marinelarena (Juan) of Lubbock, TX.. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and three brothers and a sister.
He made a significant contribution to the upbringing of his grandchildren.
