He was predeceased by : his parents, Bartolo Álvarez and Narcisa Maldonado Álvarez (Maldonado); his wife Susie Alvarez (Josie Álvarez); and his siblings, Frank, Francisca, Valentin, Juan and Mary.

He is survived by : his sons, Phil Alvarez (Frances) of Fort Worth, Moses Alvarez (Ruth) of Bryan, TX, Richard Álvarez (Joann) of Bay City, MI and Daniel Álvarez (Irene) of Arlington, TX.; and his niece Vera Vega. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
