She was predeceased by: her parents, Tommie Boals and Clinton Wright; her daughter Terri Lou; and her sisters, Lou and Gay.

She is survived by: her husband John Shelby Hawthorne (Jack); and her children, New Orleans, Patterson, Janet Ann Cottrell (Hap), Linda Sue Westfeldt (Tommy), Hal Wright (Brenda), Todd Shelby (Vicki) and Rick Salter (Lisa). She is also survived by Gran-Gran to 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and their respective spouses.

In her later years, she sewed and donated tiny blankets to local hospitals and charity for newborns.
