She was predeceased by: her parents, Henry August Brinkman and Milady Judy Brinkman (Popek); her husband A. C. Rathjen; her son-in-law William Sowders; her grandson Jordan Rathjen; her great grandchild Tobias Calhoun; her siblings, Aldie Brinkman, Stanley Brinkman, Evelyn Kosh (Freddie), Henrietta Kazmir-Hein (Raymond) and Georgia Shaver (Clyde); and her brother-in-law Otis Klagman.

She is survived by: her children, Virginia Ann Sowders, Darrell Joseph Rathjen (Nola), Darwon Lewis Rathjen (Connie) and Glen Rathjen; her siblings, Joan Klagman and Henry Brinkman (Billie); her sister-in-law Bernice Brinkman; and her grandsons, Billy Sowders, Alan Rathjen, Trevor Rathjen, Austin Rathjen, Derek Cotton, Garrett Rathjen, Preston Sprouse, Ryan Broaddus and Payton Sprouse. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
