He was predeceased by: his father Oscar Hessel; his wife Barbara Vann Hessel; his mother Hedwig Hessel; and his siblings, William Hessel and May Thompson.
He is survived by: his children, David Hessel (Lori Evans Hessel) of Weimar, Texas, Steven Hessel (Tyra Montgomery Hessel) of Houston and Kristina Hessel Brosig (Tom) of Houston; and his grandchildren, Zachary Hessel (Stephanie), Nathan Hessel (Lauren), Theresa Hessel Laurienti (Joseph), Chase Brosig and Meredith Brosig. He is also survived by great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memeorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Texas or the University of Houston Alumni Association.
