He was predeceased by: his parents, Lacy Aubrey and Katie Mae Sistrunk Scott; his former wife Linda Joy Smith; his wife Vivian Ann Gjerstad; and his siblings, Don Scott, Orville Scott, Lane Scott, Shirley Williams, Mary Powell and Wanda Gray.
Mervin was united in marriage to Linda Joy Smith on December 18, 1971, at the Wesley Foundation at Stephen F. Austin State University.
