He was predeceased by: his parents, Harvey Tilton Grier and Audie Ona Grier (Murphree); his wife Bobbie Jo Grier; his brothers, Mordan T. "Mutt" Grier, Harvey T. and Harold Grier; and his son Jackie Thomas Grier.
He is survived by: his daughter Penny Strong (James); his grandchildren, Joshua Spivey, Jenny Belflower, Jacob Spivey (Bailee), Amanda Shiyou (Brandon) and James Strong, Jr.; and his great grandchildren, Hunter Spivey, Brandon Strong, Teegan Belflower, Cambry Spivey, Cheslee Spivey, Bryson Strong, Taylor Belflower, Blake Strong, Ruby Strong, Cash Spivey and Renlee Spivey. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
