Baylis Pope Obituary
Baylis Carl Pope of Cisco, Texas passed peacefully at home into his eternal life on August 20, 2026, at 80 years of age.
Baylis was born May 10, 1946 in Coleman, Texas, to Walter William (Bill) Pope and Virginia Belle Baird Pope. He was the second of six boys. He graduated Cross Plains High School in 1964, San Angelo State University in 1969, and Southwestern Theological Seminary in 1999. Baylis married Judy Ben Speck of San Angelo on June 27, 1969, a marriage that lasted until his death 57 years later. From 1969-1971, Baylis served in the US Army during the Vietnam war.
Baylis was a follower of Jesus Christ and faithfully attended and served in various churches throughout his life. He pastored churches, taught seminary courses, and served in church leadership for many years. Baylis loved his Savior and the word of God.
He was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Virginia Pope, two brothers; Richard Hulen Pope and Donald Delmer Pope and three nephews; Donnie Joe Pope, Ronald Dwayne Pope, and Zachary Ryan Pope.
Baylis is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judy of Cisco, Texas. His children; Daughter Stacy Reich and husband Keith of Cisco, daughter Ginny Witt and husband Doug of Cisco, and son Aaron Pope of Stephenville; Grandchildren Reagan Reich and wife Alex of Hamilton, Texas, Jonathon Reich and wife Emma of Cisco, Riley Reich and wife Mattea of Colombia, SC, Jaley Reich of Cisco, Brookeana Piatt and husband Michael of Cisco, Jackson Witt and wife Kaitlyn of OKC, OK, Cooper Witt and wife Madison of Ft. Worth, and Summerlyn Witt of Cisco, Lauren Simmons and husband Brendan of Mineral Wells, Tx, and Emma Pope, and great grandchildren; Sloane and Scottie Reich, Everlee, Jodi, and Ezra Reich, Ryder and Joy (due Oct) Reich, Mykael, Gideon, Asher, Ezekiel, and Judah Piatt, Emersyn, Jamison, and Virginia Witt; brothers Walter Pope and wife Beverly of Cisco, Joe Pope and wife Joan of Stephenville, and Ronald Pope and Debbi of San Angelo, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Cisco, where he attended and served faithfully, and was loved by many.
Visitation will be 1:00 to 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Calvary Baptist Church, 1801 Conrad Hilton Blvd, Cisco. Services will follow at 2:00 PM, with Pastor Kevin Hearne officiating. Burial will be at Atwell Cemetery.
