He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Carl and Allie Cly Cheatham; his daughter Holley Caroline Cheatham; his sisters, Lee Ora Johnson, Louise Vaughan and Alice Sheppard; and his brothers-in-law, Howard Johnson, Chuck Vaughan, Jimmy Sheppard and Dale Hulett.
He is survived by: his wife Joyce; his sister Ann Hulett of Waco; his sons, Mac Fitzgerald (Irene) of Bixby, Ray Cheatham (Jamie) of Abilene and Jay Cheatham (Mindy) of Tuscola; and his grandchildren, Stephanie Fitzgerald, Austin Cheatham (Megan), Ashton Colon (Alex), Caleb Cheatham (Jenna), Christian Cheatham and Savannah Cheatham. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Visitation was held on Friday, September 18th 2026 from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home (5701 US-277, Abilene, TX 79606). A graveside service was held on Saturday, September 19th 2026 at 12:00 PM at the Elmwood Memorial Gardens.
