She was predeceased by: her parents, Warren Burrows and Jean Niblette; and her husband Martin Bal. She is survived by: her sister Judy Gahr; her daughters, Dawn Thompson, Robin Cairl and Lori Bass; and her stepchildren, Susanne Bal and Roland Bal. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to any local animal shelter in Joan's honor.
