He was predeceased by: his parents, Billie Oswald Sr. and Minnie Coleson Oswald; and his sister Bettie Earnest. He is survived by: his wife Ann; his children, Margie Barnes, Bill Oswald (Hyein) and Juyun Lee (Gun); his grandchildren, Bethany Barnes, Jack Oswald, Christina Oswald, Bennett Lee and Cara Lee; his brother Wayne Oswald (Julia Parker); and his brother-in-law Al Earnest. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

During the pandemic, he took on the role of a homeschool tutor, facilitating their online learning and sharing his wisdom.
