He was predeceased by: his mother Margaret Emma Fineagan Merkel; his uncle James Carroll Fineagan; and his grandparents, Paul Eugene, Margaret Croft Merkel, George Paul and Emma Mildred Wright Fineagan.
He is survived by: his father Paul Vernon Merkel, Jr.; his wife Victoria Merkel; his children, Paul E. "Trae" Merkel III (Jordan), Lance Merkel (Leia Burowes), McKaylah Merkel (Joshua Dixon), Maverick Merkel, Marc Sanchez (Maria) and Matthew Plitt; his granddaughters, Maria Victoria "Frankie" Sanchez and Luna Kehlani Dixon; and his siblings, Verna-Leigh Kraus (Michael) and George Carroll Merkel (Laura). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Paul's memory to organizations supporting disabled veterans or local pet rescues—two causes close to his heart.
