It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Howard Thompson (Dallas, Texas), born in Rusk, Texas, who passed away on February 28, 2026, at the age of 82, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Perry Thompson and Annie D. Thompson; his brothers, Virgil Thompson, Willie G. Thompson, Enos Thompson and Lewis Thompson Sr.; and his daughter Sharollet Thompson.

He is survived by: his wife Mamie L. Thompson of Dallas, Texas; his daughter Sheryl Thompson of Cedar Hill, Texas; his granddaughters, Jazmin Rose-Mumphrey (Chad) of Dallas and India Lois Thompson-Eason of Dallas; and his siblings, Vallie M. Plunkett of Oklahoma City, OK and Van Earl Thompson (Patricia) of Henderson, Texas. He is also survived by in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends.

“I'm grieved to learn of Howard's passing. We were colleagues at the Arts Magnet High School, BTWHSPVA. We became friends through our mutual interests of mechanics, carpentry, and cowboying. Being a year apart in age, we also shared the changes in the cultural atmosphere in Texas and around the world. We held a common respect for mankind regardless of race, social status, or education. I fondly remember his stories of "unarmed"encounters as a security guard. May perpetual light shine upon him.”
